0006: Polyan & the Johnson Sisters – Lonely Bologna (2018)

Polyan & the Johnson Sisters released their debut LP Lonely Bologna on Santa Rosa Records — March 26th, 2018.

Polyan is the experimental lo-fi folk project of Jon DeCarlo and company. It’s nothing short of brilliant. No, it’s a work of existential art ― a goddamn masterpiece of angst and self-loathing.

“Folk music is great because it’s crafted by the collective conscious, people add and change things as they interpret the music in whatever way they feel, and slowly a median product gets shaped and then this like seed that was planted generations before grows into this massive thing that the whole world had a part in making.” – Jon DeCarlo

The Velvoids

“Absolutely Nothing” is the lead single off The Velvoids’ forthcoming 7” What You Know / Absolutely Nothing.

The Velvoids are made up of Vice Lesley and Dorah X.

The duo utilizes the guitar and intricate drumwork as an unconventional rhythmic unit.

“You can kind of feel the room in these recordings” Lesley said. The result is a more chilled out vibe compared to The Velvoids’ past releases.

On a cold and dreary night in Brooklyn — Henry Black lets loose on his landlord…

At times, shit gets a bit dark around here. So, let’s lighten up the mood with Black’s Dillonesque “Landlord Blews”.

Lyrically, it’s simultaneously funny and brilliant. And, it’s also a very cool jam.

Kaochlor is an alternative indie band from the United States.

Their ethereal and ambient sound whisks one away to a faraway land. Far from the madness and angst of this decaying planet.

It’s beautiful.

The Knives

The Knives bring us a gnarly jam from the cosmic underbelly of the underground alt-rock scene.

“Sometimes He’s Mean” goes hard as fuck. It’s some original shit. The kind of stuff that makes you want to go on a real binger.

If you prefer sweet and soft melodies then just keep moving along kiddo. This stuff is not for the faint of heart. It’s some gritty shit.

Experimental death rock at its finest.
