The Eclectic Selection Ft. Binker & Moses, Blume, Central Heat Exchange, and Hezzy Brae

Binker & Moses

Eccentric London jazz duo Binker & Moses are joined by artist Max Luthert on loops and electronics, who moved the eclectic sound into a more ambient & experimental space, while still staying true to the duo’s roots in riff-heavy free-form jazz.

Their latest track “Feed Infinite” is the projects first fresh material since their 2017 album “Journey To The Mountain Of Forever”, and its subsequent live albums “Alive In The East?” and “Escape The Flames”.

“Feed Infinite” was recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Studios by Max Luthert, who shifted the sound into an alternate universe that seemed to cross into the ambient, yet minimalistic and experimental space of jazz, whilst infusing elements of electronic music.

Binker and Moses are amongst a loose yet interconnected group of London-based jazz artists that are influenced by the music that surrounds them. Keep up with the project on YouTube.

Blume

“Just Take” is the first track off of the new album ‘In Reverse’ — released back on November 19. The mutating album consists of ten sweeping tracks filled with plentiful psychedelic goodness and experimentalism.

The writing and recording process took place in a dark little apartment spare room, in Downtown Edmonton, in the springtime of 2021 — and attains a more upbeat vibration in comparison to some of Blume’s heavier and hazier arrangements of the past.

“By the end of the process I was left with ten songs that I was pleased with. I feel like these ten songs take off where the previous album left off, but continue to grow into something new while still being familiar.”

And we feel the same. The nostalgic essence of Blume is almost too much for us to handle. The glistening soundscape seems to ripple with every pulsation. It’s a sonic spectacle to behold. It’s almost like we’ve heard it before.

Central Heat Exchange

Central Heat Exchange (C.H.E.) is an eclectic collaborative indie project — the primary individuals are Adam Soloway of Living Hour, Santiago RD of Daphne Tunes, and Jacob and Paul Stoltz of Varsity and Pool Holograph, though their forthcoming output involves an even broader network of artists.

Recorded in 2020 across thirteen different bedroom studios, the eleven tracks on their debut project explores themes of communication, companionship, separation and collectivism. And now, here is the blissful “Cold”, a frigid track filled with fragmented luminescence.

““Cold” is a dark & expansive psychedelic experience, and I wanted to create a video with cold colors and constantly morphing shapes to match. This was my first music video incorporating video feedback, which involves pointing a camera at its own monitor, tweaking camera placement and color settings, putting things in front of the camera, etc. It was a pretty pure and rewarding early experiment with the technique. I added Adam and my floating, singing heads into this world to complete the video.” — Jacob Stolz

Hezzy Brae

Hezzy Brae is an eclectic and diverse recording artist out of Baltimore, Maryland. His melodic flow over the beat in low fidelity is as smooth as whipped cream dripping down a hot fudge sundae.

It’s good smoking music if your’e sitting by the beach, or anywhere really. And although it borders on the fringe of pop music, we still felt the track belonged in the Santa Rosa universe. Now take a listen. It’s a slow burner.

“Wanna get high when I’m already high but I wanna get higher.” Ah yes, the conundrum of the ancients still plagues us with its pestilence to this very day. Now go forth, and prosper.

0040: Bobby T. Lewis – Hidalgo Night (2021)

On a solemn Sunday, November 28th, in the year 2021, Bobby T. Lewis released the single, “Hidalgo Night”, on the independent label, Santa Rosa Records.

The track is an introspective tune filled with heartfelt sadness. But a tune that will lift your spirit, and carry you off to a better place. When all seems lost, simply lay your head down, close your eyes, and drift off to a place of romance and broken dreams.

And now, here it is, the sole single off of Bobby’s upcoming EP, Sweet Summer Spirit.

“One mic for drums, a vintage telephone receiver for vocals, and a one-eyed kitty (who slept on my kick pedal while in use) made the experience extra special. I am constantly reminded that the moment is all we have. Life is good, my friends. I hope that you enjoy.” – Bobby

Special thanks to Ryan O’Malley, Chase Mussey, John Sawyer, and Pirate! Go buy yourself a rad lo-fi mic from Sawyer Cigar Box Guitars! All hail analog.

Bedroom Bedlam Ft. Little Oil and Melting Resonance x Hannah Wyatt

Little Oil

Little Oil is the sonic manifestation of a San Francisco Bay Area artist who finally fulfilled his creative urge to be the totalitarian dictator of his musical cosmos. A true lover of punk, classic rock, indie, & real old time country & blues music, his music is a voodoo brew that sounds both familiar yet fresh and utterly authentic.

“San Jose” is an avant-garde post-punk jam in low fidelity that was born out of the annoyance of being told to be patient in a world that seems to be slowly melting away. The track is an underground diamond glimmering with the ghostly nostalgia of the golden age. It’s a call to a deeper place filled with romance and broken dreams.

Melting Resonance x Hannah Wyatt

“I’d Go Anywhere” by Melting Resonance x Hannah Wyatt is a catatonic fusion of indie, jazz, r&b, and folk, and in low fidelity of course. Now, take a listen and feel the charm from another world.

The twisted, laidback slow burner is a faded memory of a lovely other melting away. Sometimes, amidst the chaos and madness of the world, one just wants to escape, and meld into the ether. And what was once a hazy memory, eventually dissipates into a state of nothingness. And one must wonder if it ever really happened at all. This is true love.

Psychedelic Gems From The Underground Ft. Acid Smoker and Brandon Michael

Acid Smoker

Portland, Maine-based musician — Brian Hanson — formed Acid Smoker around the year 2013, and has since been on a nomadic quest across the country — residing in Austin, Olympia, and Portland, Oregon along the way.

His latest track “Freakout” is a frenetic frenzy filled with the iconoclastic images of a spiritual wanderer — traversing the plains of a rugged landscape. It’s beautiful to say the least.

The sound lies somewhere between a freak folk melody and the darker, underbelly of psychedelia. We hope to hear more from Acid Smoker, very soon.

Brandon Michael

Brandon Michael is an eclectic Toronto based multi-instrumental songwriter, and producer. Michael combines bedroom music and indie elements from the underground with sincere, emotional driven vocals and lyrics.

The radiating soundscape of “We’re Not Young” reminds us of an iridescent acid trip from a simpler time. A time filled with love, nostalgia, and a sense of beauty. But a time, that’s swiftly fleeting, and melting away like a snowman on a sunny day in late March. A sad beauty of sorts.

In closing, although the track is a dark mood, reflecting on thoughts and feelings surrounding the aging process, we can’t help but notice the light and beauty emanating from the soundscape. It’s a gem.

All tracks and instruments were performed, recorded, and produced by Brandon Michael.

Alone in Deer Park (Один в оленьем парке)

Alone in Deer Park (Один в оленьем парке) is an experimental project by Artem from Cosmic Letdown, an avant-garde artist out of Cheboksary, Russia.

The track we have for you today (I’m not at home — Я не дома) is a psychedelic free fall through the fractal wasteland of the weary mind. A poignant peak into the world of the benign nature of freak folk music. In short, it’s a festive treat for the autumn season, filled with synths, a filthy drum machine, and crunchy vocals. Here, take a listen for yourself.

The track was released on Opium Eyes Records — a boutique Russian label. And the project is named Alone in Deer Park after the eponymous song by Christian Bland & The Revelators.

Keep up with the project on Bandcamp.
