Two Shades of Folk Ft. “Plain Jane” & “Bartender”

“Plain Jane”

“Plain Jane” is an experimental indie folk track wreaking of the Velvet Underground and Tommy James and the Shondells. It’s a psychedelic throwback to an acid-soaked time now dead and gone.

The iridescent vocals seem to invite the listener on a dreamy lo-fi adventure dripping with psych-folk brilliance and a nice cool buzz. It’s truly some premium shit.

However, in reality it’s a song about a girl, existential dread, and coffee. Now sit back, burn one down, and prepare to have your mind melted by the freshest sound in town. Here is, hhhhhh…

“Bartender”

“Bartender” is the debut track from Bug Martin’s upcoming record which was released back on July 26th by Pyrrhic Victory Recordings.

After spending several grim years germinating in Baltimore’s bizarre arts scene where Bug wrote and recorded several self-released albums, his new album explores genre-bending tales of hapless love and drunken wisdom.

Bug is a storyteller born in the basement of New Jersey, he’s a singer-songwriter who explores inner space to create moody, alternative-folk music steeped in Americana, blues, and roots music. Bug’s songs evoke existential and confessional themes, often with tongue planted firmly in cheek.

Mystery Showcase Ft. Different Places in Space, Frogi, PERCASSETTE, Dante Mazzetti, Àbáse, and Pearla

Different Places in Space

Different Places in Space is an indie shoegaze outfit out of Pittsburgh, PA.

Their new single is a shimmering song speaking of empowerment and not worrying about what others think about you.

“I Can Do What I Want” is a psychedelic ensemble infused with elements of dream pop in an enchanting journey through time and space. Now sit back, turn up the volume, and soak in the radical vibrations. You will not regret it.

Frogi

“I wrote time in the bedroom of my apartment when I was really heartbroken.”

Frogi, a Los Angeles based artist, spills her heart out on her latest track with retro vocals that explore the inner workings of the fragmented mind. She weaves ethereal vocals into a subdued soundscape — inducing a dream-like state.

“I lost someone very close to me when I was nineteen, and after that all I could do was write songs all the time. It was the only thing (besides my dog) that got me through it.”

PERCASSETTE Ft. BELLSAINT

PERCASSETTE Ft. BELLSAINT dishes up a fresh new chillhop jam wreaking of quintessential lo-fi bedroom music.

“Like Gold To Me” is a lackadaisical slow dance into the inner depths of a midsummer afternoon. It’s like gravy on potatoes, or chocolate oozing down the spherical slopes of a steaming hot fudge sundae.

And now sit down, take a load off, and soak in the intoxicating sound-waves of PERCASSETTE & BELLSAINT.

Dante Mazzetti

Dante Mazzetti is a storyteller who was born and raised in New York City, he started playing the fiddle at the age of three. And by five, he was learning guitar and writing his own songs. The rest is history.

Mazzetti’s new track “Hey Now” focuses on an individual who is completely honest about who he is and where he’s at in life — broken and now hardened. He knows that he must leave the life he once had and be born again. But it’ll be hard.

“The songs are doors that open easily into bizarre worlds rather than places of comfort.” – Mazzetti

Àbáse

Àbáse (Szabolcs Bognar) is a multi-instrumentalist creating a magical blend of West African, Brazilian, hip hop, jazz and club music. He focuses on the rhythm section and drifts between funky riffs and silky smooth chord structures. The word “àbáse” comes from the West African Yoruba language and stands for “collaboration” — a key facet of Àbáse’s music.

Àbáse studied at the Jazz Conservatory in Budapest and has had stints in Paris, New York, Rio de Janeiro, and Salvador de Bahia — but is currently based in Berlin.

Àbáse’s latest project is a seven piece adventure of instrumental artistry, each channeling a musical journey of its own, while inviting the listener on a personal, emotional journey with guests he encountered along the way…

Pearla

Pearla, the project of 22-year-old Nicole Rodriguez — sounds like your childhood toys all hiding in a trunk up in the dusty attic — innocent, familiar, and at the very same time, tragic and quite sad. Pearla’s songs are intricate artifacts of profound emotion — playful yet evocative, contained yet complex. It’s a perfect balance.

The waxing instrumentation of “Daydream” is a fleeting glimpse into the intricately complex mind of Pearla. And while roots music builds the foundation of her music, Pearla tinkers with stray noises from all edges of the world to relay her hazy, pastel-colored feelings of displacement and wonder.

“This song is about clinging onto a memory until it becomes distorted in your mind, and turns into an almost absurd attempt to escape the present.” – Pearla

Bandcamp Exclusive Ft. The Virtual Conductor, Dakota Blue, Crave On

The Virtual Conductor

The Virtual Conductor’s “La Vida es Bella” is one of Eamonn Watt’s more experimental tracks, featuring classical guitar on cassette tape, mellotron flutes, strings and celesta to create a nostalgic, reflective sort of sound.

Although Watt is a classical composer from the Shetland Isles — he dabbles in other genres and seems to stretch the creative limits of his human mind. The fringe is where he resides.

Now sit back, relax, and feel free to reap the profound essence of all that is The Virtual Conductor. Here is “La Vida es Bella” off his new album ‘Aquarelle’.

Dakota Blue

Dakota Blue is an experimental indie pop artist from the concrete jungle of LA.

“At the Gala” is a lackadaisical single glimmering of a sweet nostalgic resonance off Dakota Blue’s upcoming album — ‘Specific System’.

The project utilizes the 12-string guitar and synths to create a dreamy atmosphere around a gala in a garden. “The gala hasn’t started. Drama arrives early. She wears a pricey dress. He looks always unimpressed.”

Crave On

Crave On is an intoxicating band playing rock and roll music from deep within the eclectic hub of Nashville, Tennessee.

Their latest psych-folk project entitled “Ace on the Outspeaker” is a shimmering reflection of a collection of small moments that seem to fade away into a distant memory — as life just seems to keep rolling on by.

“Black night putting my nerves to the test. Like I knew I was the best, like I was better than the rest. Wild child putting the first things first.”

Spotify Lo-Fi Session Ft. Miynt, Day Joy, Steevn, Salvador Dassi

Miynt

Swedish born artist Miynt is back at it — and better than ever — with a brand new EP coming out later this summer!

Blending elements of lo-fi psych rock and indie electronic music — Stockholm-artist Miynt’s fresh new single is entitled “Peaches.” The song was written and co-produced by Miynt as well.

“Peaches” follows the release of her first single “Vacation with Bond in south of France part 2” — a cinematic soundtrack to a Bond movie that was never made.

The luscious bedroom — lo-fi avant-garde pop sound of Miynt seems to melt into a cataclysmic bowl of candied peaches, and half-melted ice cream. The sound is a delectable sonic treat to behold.

Day Joy

Day Joy songwriter, Michael Serrin, comments on new single, White: “I grew up with someone who eventually became radicalized. He actually ended up becoming an active organizer for the infamous Unite the Right Rally in Charlottesville. One day, I ran into him and we got into an argument. His primary point was basically that white people should remain in power in the United States just as Japanese people remain in power in Japan, Chinese people in China, etc. My response was to ask him exactly what he meant by white people? And, to my surprise, he had a hard time answering the question.

I wanted to deconstruct the concept of whiteness to see if anything was actually there.

I also wanted the lyrics to describe whiteness in terms of physics and optics… I love the idea that every color of the rainbow blended together is white. I thought that stacking the scientific on top of the spiritual would create an interesting dichotomy. The juxtaposition is a rainbow as the LGBTQ symbol and white light as the symbol of purity in religious institutions that oppose LGBTQ communities. The lyrics expose this irony through an anecdote of a closeted love affair — one who resents his sexuality and uses a hateful slur, the other who embraces himself and leaves the barred room — stepping into the light.”

Steevn

Steevn’s recordings aren’t really about quality, they’re more about heart. Emotion. The kind of music that’s playing in the background — as you stare into the abyss of the dreamworld…

This particular lo-fi track was recorded on a no-string budget while Steevn was dodging pick pockets in Mexico City. He recorded it on the cheap — with a $20 mic in a little AirBnb room.

The track is a poignant love song about a girl and a city gone mad. It’s got some Autotune, but in a weird — and very cool way. Steevn likes to call it — post-folk.

And now, after a good and long introspective toke, settle in and soak in the heavy vibrations of Austin’s very own, Steevn.

Salvador Dassi

Norway-based Salvador Dassi’s new track — “She” — contains interesting elements of doped out indie rock, bedroom pop, and a more experimental lo-fi texture that never seems to get old.

The sonic result is quintessential lo-fi stoner rock — chilled out to the very max. With a very cool bass-line, and interesting beat.

Facets of Salvador’s new lo-fi slow jam seem to bend both space and time in a sort of nostalgic, and half asleep manner. The blend is a beautiful fusion of the new and old. The whole and broken. The yin and the yang. A perfect fusion of melodic beauty.

“Sometimes you climb out of bed in the morning and you think, I’m not going to make it, but you laugh inside — remembering all the times you’ve felt that way.” ― Charles Bukowski

Lo-Fi Indie Limelight Ft. The Frownsss, Being Dead, Obvious Creature, Alien Lizard, Boe Weaver, JW Francis

The Frownsss

“Beesides” is the debut track from the eccentric two-man project that calls itself The Frownsss.

Unconventional recording techniques and 4 track tape machines run through the veins of the musical mutant love child.

Like an estranged stranger looking in, the track is an honest take on vintage radio oldies.

It throws caution to the wind with offbeat production elements while being held upright with a strong percussive backbone.

Dan Lean and Liam Eaton are the creative brains behind the two-man project birthed in late 2018 through the collective, Electric Possum Records.

Being Dead

For those of us who live for cerebral music that refuses to be easily categorized, it doesn’t get much more intriguing than Being Dead.

Multi-instrumentalists Juli Keller and Cody Dosier skirt the line between outsider music and commercial grooves that have been retrofitted with an irresistible sound.

The project is an original expedition into the depths of lo-fi experimentalism and indie pop.

While extremely avant-garde in nature, they’re not so left-field as to be woefully inaccessible to casual fans of experimental music.

pop music has been embracing the postmodern school of thought more and more over the last decade, but few groups are able to wield its wildly imaginative pen with the same command and prowess as Being Dead…

Obvious Creature

Obvious Creature’s third LP is entitled “Next Year Might Be Different” and represents a culmination of sound and artistic influence.

The album is a bleak commentary on cruel optimism and human desire to be something more.

The tracks explore rich textures of synthesis and organic instruments along with effected samples and layered vocals.

It is a new sound for Obvious Creature and a clear sign of their growth.

Here is the second single from the upcoming album, ‘next year might be different’ — releasing May 31st on Creature Collective records.

This is also the debut release for the indie label.

Alien Lizard

Your life is cinema. Every sensation a programmed impulse. Every thought a rabid pixelation of the last.

In the moments in between, you have witnessed the final evolution of consciousness.

We are now the architects of the universe. We are now the destroyers of worlds.

Do what thou wilt.

Rise from the illusion or drift gently into the most serene dreams the womb of modernity has to offer…

Here is the first single off Alien Lizard’s upcoming album, Monatomic Gold. Listen and dig.

Boe Weaver

Welcome to the world of Boe Weaver, where things are done a little differently.

Boe Weaver are less a band and more a state of mind. They make strange, exotic and heavy instrumental music.

Boe Weaver is far out shit, basically. A lava lamp of sound exploding in your mind. A cosmic rearrangement and prolonged derangement of the senses…

What happened to wanting to change the world through music? Start a revolution?

Boe Weaver is rarely spotted without their massive animal masks… They’re keeping their thousand yard stares well-hidden as they get busy in 2019 and beyond…

The first stage of the journey that began in earnest and which has now evolved into the occupation of this unique, self-created musical universe is now complete.

And now, prepare yourselves for the next stage of Boe Weaver.

JW Francis

Born in Tulsa Oklahoma, raised in Paris, France, and now based in New York City, JW Francis brings a warm, affable vibe to the frigid metropolis of New York.

The 25 year old songwriter makes music for people, to people, whether crooning about his love for his best friend (“Joe”) or telling jokes between songs…

After putting in his time supporting other artists — running a music magazine, Rare Candy, and a recording studio, CU Records — Francis set off to make art of his own, imprinted with a genuine love for others.

“Too Fast” is a song about things going too fast. Enjoy, and don’t forget to smell the roses.
