P.F. Phillip and The Night Riders

P.F. Phillip and The Night Riders are an up-and-coming indie rock band and roommates from East London.

They dig jamming, eating pasta together, and watching trashy American comedies.

You might be able to catch them playing a show somewhere around London. Try The Finsbury, The Troubadour or The Old Queens Head.

And now, here is their nostalgic jam — “Your Lips Are For Kissing”.

John Burnette

John Burnette is an Americana folk artist from Charlotte, North Carolina.

The unexpected loss of his father led John to music which eventually culminated in his eponymous debut album.

In “Pale and Blue” — a multidimensional jam off this same album — John takes us on a wonderful journey through the cosmos.

His poignant vocals paired with his intricate guitar work set the cosmic stage for a timeless work of art. It’s simply a sublime jam. Sagan would be proud.

“Traveling back, made a call to my mother just to tell her I was on my way
Well I hit a wormhole in the bottom of my soul and got there 20 years too late
I try to remember the day in December, the last time that I saw her face
A bright light and a winter and a crash, bang, whimper, we’re gone.”

Steevn Walker

Steevn Walker is a rambling musician who creates lofi ballads of worry and angst with a pinch of nostalgic beauty.

He recorded his latest album “fools gold” in a makeshift bedroom in Austin, Texas during a period of supposed political tension and personal hardship.

On my first listen through, I couldn’t help but hear the spirit of Daniel Johnston shine through Steevn’s recordings. From his guitar work to his vocals, it seemed Johnston had a grave affect on the art of Steevn’s songs. But then, I heard Bob Dylan. And then, Leonard Cohen.

Who is Steevn Walker? Is he a man? A vagrant? Perhaps a genius?

In the spirit of Johnston, Steevn trashed conventional individual tracks and instead released a lofi continuous tape-like recording of his tunes.

Honest lofi glory encapsulated in psychedelic love and heartfelt kindness.

“dreams of clear and distant lands seemed to make me sick” – Steevn Walker

Arkansas Dave

Arkansas Dave was born and raised on the blues in the piney swamps of Southern Arkansas.

Most people in Dave’s hometown either went to prison, joined the army, or sank down into the swampy waters of mediocrity. However, Dave chose a different path—music.

With devout Christianity on one side of his family and booze ‘n drugs on the other, music really was Dave’s sole escape. Even when Dave found himself as an assembly-line worker in a factory, he never gave up on his dream. And upon the death of his grandpappy, Dave got his shit together and enrolled in an audio engineering course in Austin, Texas—located in the infamous Arlyn Studios (same studio Willie Nelson, Neil Young and Ray Charles recorded).

Now having spent the last couple years writing, recording, and cutting his teeth in dive bars across Arkansas and Texas. Dave is nearly ready for the big leagues. However, before he shares his wild ride through the medium of song, Dave covers a Tom Waits classic.

Here is the timeless—Chocolate Jesus.

Arkansas Dave’s new album drops 4/20.
