Adam Ben Nun

Adam Ben Nun is a post-rock folk artist from Berlin.

“This Is Not My Language” is a monolithic organism of harmonic guitars and subtle vocals. A piece of art that sounds as if it was born from an ancient pagan ritual.

Nun’s angst and emotion coupled with his bizarre lyrics are enough to send one over the edge. Yeah, it’s some pretty cool stuff.

Here is the wandering—Adam Ben Nun.

Listen and dig my friends.

Daniel Ruiz

Daniel Ruiz is an independent artist from Barcelona, Spain.

He dropped the bedroom classic “A Cup of Coffee with Two Sugar Cubes, Cream, and a Tiny Drop of Whiskey” a couple months ago. It’s some very cool shit.

As the deep vocals of Ruiz flirt with the depths of a steely guitar, the nostalgic melody pulls one deeper and deeper into the fantastic soundscape of all that is Daniel Ruiz.

A dream.

If you’re into beautiful ballads you’re going to like this.

9 Alternative Indie Music Blogs To Follow in 2018

GORILLA VS BEAR

Gorilla vs. Bear is a Texas-based music blog sometimes referred to as the New Yorker of hipster blogs. They blog about relevant artists with no particular genre-specific focus. Gorilla vs. Bear is probably the most mainstream blog on this list but they have such a cool name we just couldn’t resist.

RAVEN SINGS THE BLUES

Raven Sings The Blues started in 2006 as a project between three co-workers. Eventually, it fell into the lap of just one of its founders—Andy—who maintains the site to this day. Raven Sings the Blues is dedicated to discovering and bringing to light indie music that has slipped through the cracks. This one is a dandy.

THE BLUE WALRUS

The Blue Walrus is an online music publication based out of London, England. They’re obsessed with all things indie. Particularly electro and folk music. Their old school site design is cool, but the edgy music they feature, is even cooler.

THE MONDAY MORNING TAPE

The Monday Morning Tape features mostly good music for mostly good people. Folk, indie, roots music, rock, americana, and the occasional bizarre can’t-quite-categorize-it is the type of stuff they really get into. They post new music every Monday. Chem them out.

VARIOUS SMALL FLAMES

Various Small Flames believes that music and writing have the power to connect people and help them better understand themselves and each other. They share music from independent artists, especially home recordings and DIY labels. In a previous life, this site was known as Wake the Deaf. It’s legit. Check it.

BUFFABLOG

BUFFABLOG is a music blog located in Buffalo, New York. They write about music. Buffalo, NY music in particular. They write about other music too, but they like to keep it mostly local. They’ll keep you well-informed about freshly released music and upcoming concerts in the Buffalo area.

EARMILK

EARMILK is an online music publication that attempts to straddle the line between underground and mainstream music. They cover indie, Hip-Hop, EDM, music festivals and everything else in between. There are no duds on this blog. All milk baby.

WOLF IN A SUIT

Wolf in a Suit is a cool site that interviews artists and reviews and recommends fresh tracks. However, they occasionally veer off track and write off-topic about things such as film, fashion, and travel. When I saw this quote on their site, I was sold—“Without music, life would be a mistake.” – Friedrich Nietzsche

TWO STORY MELODY

Two Story Melody loves music. All music. Their editor—Jon Anderson—has been writing music for most of his life. He’s fascinated with the creative process of music. He wants to comprehend how honest music is made, how arrangements are crafted to convey emotion, and how those certain elements can literally make your heart break into a million pieces. In short, Jon’s mission is to understand how tran·scen·den·tal artists create timeless music.

A Note to Artists & Publicists: How to Submit Your Music to Blogs

Pussy Riot Announces Debut U.S.A. Tour

When I opened my inbox to find a submission from Pussy Riot — let’s just say I was pretty fucking stoked.

As a student of geopolitics, Pussy Riot had been on my radar for years.

However, if you’re not familiar with Pussy Riot, at least know this — they’re a collection of feminist post-punk protest rockers out of Moscow, Russia. And, they’re not scared of shit.

Here is what Nadya Tolokonnikova (member of Pussy Riot) had to say about their latest protest track, “Police State”:

“Pro-authoritarian trends and autocratic, conservative, right-wing leaders are spreading around the world like a sexually transmitted disease…

If we find a way…to act together, be articulate, focused and persuasive. We can [move] mountains…

If you have to point at an enemy, our greatest enemy is apathy. We’d be able to achieve fantastic results if we were not trapped by the idea that nothing can be changed.

What we’re lacking is confidence that institutions can actually work better, and that we can make them work better.

Actions are more important than opinions… It’s crucial to build alternative institutions and establish alternative power structures, especially when your government sucks. There’s a lot that can be done and should be done. Putin will not disappear tomorrow, but we can show our fellow Russians how corrupt…and ineffective [he] is.” — Nadya Tolokonnikova, Pussy Riot

Since Pussy Riot members have gotten out of prison, they’ve started an independent media outlet dubbed Mediazona — in an attempt to shine light on corrupt Russian courtrooms, police stations, prisons and labor camps.

Strong women standing up to a tyrannical government is a thing of beauty. Stay safe girls. This fucked up world needs you.

BREAKING NEWS: Pussy Riot will be touring the USA in March! Cities include Chicago, Portland, Seattle, and LA. Check the full itinerary here.

Keep up with the girls on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram. Listen to their latest tracks on Spotify!
