Lo-Fi Rhinestones Ft. Billy TwangMan, Oinker Doinkers, bellhoss, Ames Harding, Color Tv, and The Poppy Seeds [YouTube]

Billy TwangMan

Alternative folk artist, Billy TwangMan, draws from a deep well of introspective meanderings. “My Dear Darling” is a gritty lo-fi track that immediately draws the listener into its moody, atmospheric world.

The distorted soundscape creates a sense of easy tension that is maintained throughout the track, while the sparse percussion and haunting vocals complement the otherworldly feel.

Despite its minimalistic approach, the song conveys a sense of raw emotion that is utterly captivating. The track’s experimental nature and unconventional structure add to its overall sense of cryptic beauty.

Oinker Doinkers

“Black Mold” is a freak folk diamond in the rough of psychedelia from the underworld of the Oinker Doinkers. An ensemble known as the happiest, and perhaps the grittiest band on earth.

The laidback and relaxed track is a damn slow burner about the downward spiral of a life gone awry. A self-deprecating tune about poverty and the will to survive. An absolute dandy.

bellhoss

“This song is 7 words that spoke the truth to the people I love the most.”

The winsome track is about family. The emotionally charged anthem speaks to a deeper placed filled with emotion and heartfelt sentiment.

bellhoss sits in a lucid purgatory between underground folk and bedroom lo-fi post-punk, writing sad songs for people who keep secrets.

The project specializes in puppy birthday parties (alongside run-of-the-mill sad dog birthday clowns) and government acronyms. An instant classic.

Ames Harding

“Peacock” celebrates male flamboyance, contrasting flirting to the mating ritual of tropical birds.

The song is a sultry and seductive indie rock track that oozes with sensuality and swagger. From the very first note, the listener is drawn in by the smooth, groovy guitar riffs and the sultry, smooth vocals that weave in and out of the soundscape.

The track’s lyrics are unabashedly provocative, filled with innuendos and suggestive imagery that paint a vivid vision of the passion and desire at the heart of the song.

The well-crafted instrumentation of the track creates an irresistible sense of cool that perfectly captures the mood of the track.

Color Tv

Experimental freak folk project, Color Tv, has been self releasing music since 1993.

The track is a mind-bending trip through a hazy, dreamlike world of psychedelic wonder. The track’s unconventional instrumentation and swirling, disorienting melodies create a sense of dislocation and surrealism that is both fascinating, and unsettling.

The haunting, ethereal vocals penetrate the mix like a distant, otherworldly presence, while the hypnotic percussion and trippy, droning guitar lines provide a constant undercurrent of tension. The song’s overall structure is loose and improvisational, allowing for ample room for exploration and experimentation.

Despite its unconventional approach, “Planchette” is a captivating and hypnotic piece of music that grows deeper as one listens. It’s a perfect example of how the boundaries of genre can be pushed and blurred to create a truly unique and otherworldly sonic experience.

The Poppy Seeds

The Poppy Seeds are a psychedelic shoe-gaze outfit from the San Gabriel Valley area of Los Angeles.

“You are a Drug” is a relaxed underground dream rock track with atmospheric instrumentation and drearily seductive vocals.

The track is reminiscent of a time now dead and gone.

Nonchalant licks over psychedelic dream pop music with female vocals is what sums up this sound. Like a wet nightmare. Now, sharpen your senses, and tune into the hypnotic abyss of The Poppy Seeds.

Psychedelic Revival Ft. Zack Keim, Zook, The Veldt, and Meena

Zack Keim

“Canyon” is a stripped down rock and roll slow burner that’s dripping with elements of folk music and psychedelia reminiscent of the sixties. It’s a true treat for those who’re upon the long and dusty trail.

From the driving tambourine to the simplistic vocals, the track is a waxing and seemingly effortless sonic vibration that just seems to roll on by like a long and hot summer day. Listen on Spotify!

Zook

Zook is a Nashville-based freak folk artist dishing up down-home vibrations that are dripping with elements of psychedelia and folk music.

The track “Pimlico Racehorses” is a psych-folk melody featuring zither-like Appalachian instruments, lyrical depth, and atmospheric solos that will send you to cloud nine. Give Zook a listen on Spotify!

The Veldt

Identical twin brothers, Danny and Daniel Chavis, have been making transcendental music for about three decades. Indeed, the project was formed in 1986, in Raleigh, North Carolina.

“Sweeter” is a cyclical and driving indie jam that seems to beckon for a day that’s now lost and gone. The vocals lure one in, before the instrumentation drowns the listener in pure ecstasy. Listen to The Veldt on Spotify.

Meena

The indie group, Meena, is from Manchester, and dishes up an ethereal soundscape filled with heavy vibrations and radical lyricisms. A driving track that will put one on the edge of their seat.

The blurry sound is a reflection of the artist. A true peek inside a dark place that few have ever laid eyes on before. Now, sit back, and enjoy, we’ve got a long road ahead my friend.

the courts play shoegaze

There’s something about a blurry shoegaze song that just hits you right in the chest. It’s a genre that’s all about emotion, and the way it’s able to convey heartache and melancholy is truly unmatched.

I had a dream the other night that I was listening to a moody shoegaze track, and it was like the music was speaking directly to me. The vocals were so raw and melodic, and they just resonated with me in a way that few songs ever have.

As I listened to “Kenzie” by the courts, I found myself getting lost in the melodic layers, and couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed by the emotion pouring out of the music. It was filled with a sense of sadness and longing, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that the track was somehow speaking to me on a deeper level.

The more I listened, the more I felt like I was being transported to another world, one where the music was the only thing that mattered. And in that moment, all of my troubles and worries seemed to fade away, replaced by a sense of peace.

Diamonds in the Rough Ft. Jacob King, Markus Nikolaus, The Kerosene Hours, and Feedbag

Jacob King

Jacob King is a singer-songwriter and exceptional guitarist out of Buffalo, NY.

His vocals quiver and shake, and simply bring a calm feeling of antiquated hope to the listener.

His aesthetic is quite vintage. And sounds as if it was recorded in the basement of the Brill Building in the latter half of the sixties.

King’s music was recorded on 4-track cassette. And released on the indie label, Foxhead Record Co. Keep up with his music on Spotify!

Markus Nikolaus

The quintessential underground sound could be summed up by the raucous vibrations of Markus Nikolaus. But, would not one wish to hear more?

The vocals are oh so poignant, the aesthetic is gritty, and the beat is just to die for. What more could a rock and roller wish for?

The track is rugged, yet embodies a sleek and relaxed sound, a sound that evokes emotions of the darker, more unique quadrant of indie rock.

Keep up with Markus Nikolaus on Spotify, and be sure to give him a follow!

The Kerosene Hours

Have you ever been so very upset at her that you wear her favorite dress, just to make her mad? Well my fair-weather friends, that’s what this song entails. And we’re not so sure you’ll ever regret wearing it.

The underground dream is alive and well with this particular track. So much so in fact, we feel it belongs within a David Lynch film.

Now sit back, relax, and get down to the cyclical madness of The Kerosene Hours.

We hope that you enjoyed this track, as much as we did.

And please don’t be selfish, share the love and get down and dirty with the king of the modern day crooner. Don’t be afraid.

Stay up to date with The Kerosene Hours on Spotify!

Feedbag

A long, long, time ago, out of the deep waters of Stagnant Pond, Feedbag arose from the depths. Covered with moss and oh so very primal. Indeed, she emerged from the dark waters with fragments of melodies in her head. And over the aeons, the melodies slowly took form and have at last reached their final stage.

And lucky for you, she lives on to share these melodies with you.

We don’t cover many cover tracks, but a unique cover that we feel may supersede the original, is always welcome on our platform.

This lo-fi underground version seems to beckon to a deeper place, and is riddled with a downtrodden emotion of happy sadness. A true work of art in our lowly opinion.

Follow Feedbag on Spotify you filthy vagrants of the underground! It’d be much appreciated.

Now go, and spread the word, for the world weeps with sadness, because deep down inside, we all know that the superficial music on the popular airwaves completely blows.

Spooktacular Tracks Ft. Francesca Blanchard and Hieronymus Harry

Francesca Blanchard

Francesca Blanchard is a French-American artist & producer based out of Burlington, Vermont. Her music infuses super-pop arrangements with complex emotional subtleties of experimentalism.

“je sais plus quoi te dire” is a parody of emotional indulgence at its absolute finest. A true trick, or treat.

Inspired by the French Ye Ye Pop era of the sixties, the track is a nonsensical cry for a long lost lover’s attention. An instant classic in our book!

When Francesca isn’t on stage or in the studio, chances are she’s hiking somewhere in the mountains.

Hieronymus Harry

Hieronymus Harry returns to the blog with a jester-like yet down-home fancy. The track waxes and wanes, but in the end, the folk-laden grandeur of the single shines bright.

The track is a hypnotic – spellbound infusion of twangy guitar solos and euphoric wails that explore the mystic meanderings of fulfillment and oneness with the cosmos.

“It’s about finding that bright, comfortable space within yourself where others can come and meet you. We meander in and out, but finding contentment with its absence can be the quickest way back in.”

“Radiant Planet” is the second single off of Hieronymus Harry’s debut album, The River of Doom, which arrives to streaming platforms November 11th! We can’t wait to give it a spin!
